Microsoft introduced a new logging system in a Windows 11 test build Friday to collect performance logs automatically when users experience sluggishness, aiming to address persistent complaints since the operating system’s October 2021 debut.
This system allows Windows Insiders to provide feedback on “slow or sluggish performance,” enabling Feedback Hub to automatically collect logs that will assist Microsoft in identifying root causes more rapidly.
“As part of our commitment to improving Windows performance, logs are now collected when your PC has experienced any slow or sluggish performance. Windows Insiders are encouraged to provide feedback when experiencing PC issues related to slow or sluggish performance, allowing Feedback Hub to automatically collect these logs, which will help us root cause issues faster. Use the Desktop > System Sluggishness category when filing feedback to allow Feedback Hub to automatically pick up these logs. These logs are stored locally (%systemRoot%TempDiagOutputDirWhesvc folder) and only sent to Microsoft via Feedback Hub when feedback is submitted,” states Microsoft.
Prior efforts to boost Windows 11 performance include improvements made in 2023 to the Taskbar, notifications area, and quick settings panel. The impact of startup applications on performance was also reduced in 2023. Additionally, the 24H2 update, released last year, demonstrated significant performance improvements on older hardware.
Microsoft is also enhancing Windows drivers by implementing new certification requirements for the 25H2 update. These requirements mandate static analysis for driver certification, designed to identify potential issues in driver code prior to deployment.
