Instagram finally lets you edit your profile grid

Instagram revealed on Thursday that users will soon be able to rearrange posts on their profile grid. The platform is also testing silent posting to profiles and launching Spotify integration for Instagram Notes, along with a creator support initiative.

The forthcoming grid rearrangement feature responds to user demand for greater customization. Until now, posts have appeared chronologically, with pinning as the sole method for highlighting older content.

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, indicated in January that the company aimed to introduce grid rearrangement. Development of this feature was observed in 2022, though the project was temporarily suspended.

Instagram is currently testing the option to post content quietly, without it appearing in followers’ feeds. Plans exist to expand the rollout of the feature soon.

Mosseri stated in a blog post that the new feature aims to alleviate the pressure of public posting, enabling users to share content more freely.

This function may be most appealing to users focused on profile development, contrasting with creators and celebrities seeking high engagement. Trial reels, a similar feature, permits creators to test content without directly broadcasting it to followers.

According to Instagram data shared on Thursday, 40% of creators increased their Reels posting frequency after using trial reels. Of this group, 80% saw their Reels reach a broader non-follower audience.

Mosseri stated that the intent behind the two new creative features is to provide users with increased control over content visibility and reduce pressure associated with sharing.

The Spotify integration enables users to share music directly from the streaming service to their Instagram Notes. This allows followers to view and explore the user’s current listening selections.

Instagram also announced Drafts, an initiative to support emerging creators through potential financial support, networking opportunities, co-creation, and collaborative projects.

An Instagram spokesperson clarified to TechCrunch via email that Drafts is not a dedicated creator fund. Instead, Instagram will collaborate with creators to tailor support to specific project needs.
